Career Profile:
I received a BA in electrical engineering from the University of New
Brunswick, then spent several years designing remote data acquisition
systems under private contracts. One design involved a remote controlled
camera platform for time-lapse photography, another design became
a single-handed chord keyboard for the Macintosh. As a young man with
the urge to travel, I was lured to the Canada's West Coast, where
I travelled plenty as a field service engineer for Bruker Spectrospin
(Canada) ltd. My experience base grew to include RF electronics, Unix
based computer systems, superconducting magnets, and Magnetic Resonance
Spectroscopy and Imaging.
Roles and Responsibilities:
As the Senior Systems Engineer for the Centre for Magnetic Resonance,
I look after the CMR Research laboratories, maintain and repair the
NMR, MRI and ESR spectrometers, and provide technical support for
the research staff. This includes on-call responsibility for service
and maintenance of three clinical MRI scanners located at The Wesley
Hospital and the Royal Brisbane Hospital. With a background in electrical
engineering and a strong interest in MR systems and RF circuits, I
provide technical support and advice to the UQ community for NMR site
planning, RF development and MR troubleshooting. As the Centre has
many links to the greater MR community, my duties have also expanded
to consult to a wider community, within Australia and overseas.
